Pop Up Stoodio in Thistle Street Edinburgh

23rd August 2026
Two Artists, Two Landscapes, One Friendship
I’m really excited to be able to tell you about something a little bit different that I’ve been working on with a fantastic artist friend of mine.
From Monday 7th to Sunday 13th September, we’re taking over the Pop Up Stoodio at 25A Thistle Street in Edinburgh for a week-long exhibition celebrating our shared love of nature, landscape and, of course, making art! There’s a lovely French–Scottish connection to it all.
My friend, Benedicte Allee is a French artist, inspired by the dramatic landscapes of the French Alps, while my own work is rooted in the landscapes and moods of the Scottish coast. Two very different places — but perhaps not as different as you might think.
Both have that wonderful sense of being completely immersed in nature. The changing light, the weather, the colours, the textures and those moments when you stop and just look. That’s really what this exhibition is about.
Artist Collaboration.
We’ve been talking for ages about doing something together, and it feels particularly special to finally make it happen in Edinburgh. I love the idea of putting our work alongside each other and seeing how the two landscapes speak to one another.
The rugged Scottish coastline and the huge, soaring presence of the Alps might seem worlds apart, but both have a way of making you feel very small — in the best possible sense! And, as with much of my own work, it isn’t necessarily about painting a particular place literally. I’m much more interested in the feeling of being there.
The atmosphere.
The movement.
The memory of a particular view.
The way the sea looks on one day and completely different the next.
The way mountains can feel enormous and solid, while the weather is constantly moving around them.
Those are the things that find their way into our paintings.
Come and have a look
We’ll be open throughout the week, and we’re planning a few little events along the way.
I’m particularly looking forward to our Morning Coffee & Art Chat on Wednesday 9th September 10 to 11.30am. It will be a relaxed morning — coffee, conversation and a chance to talk about the work and where the ideas come from. Nothing too formal. Just come along, have a coffee, have a chat and look at some art.
Then on Thursday 10th September we’ll be having our Private View from 6–8pm. There will be drinks, a chance to meet us both and, hopefully, lots of good conversations about being creative and all the things that inspire us. If you can't make Thursday, don't worry — we'll also be open late on Friday, and Saturday will be a big day in the gallery too.
We're planning an art raffle on Saturday 12th from 3pm to 5pm, with some lovely prizes – watch this space!
And then, rather sadly, we'll reach Sunday and the final day. There will be a chance for people who have bought artwork to come along and collect their pieces and have a celebratory glass with us from 3pm to 5pm.
A little bit of Thistle Street
One of the things I’m particularly enjoying about this exhibition is that it isn't happening in a traditional gallery. We're right in the middle of Thistle Street, surrounded by some lovely independent shops, cafés, restaurants and bars. We're hoping to make the exhibition feel like part of the street for the week — and we are sending out vibes to some of the local businesses who may want to get involved. Give us a shout! We are open to suggestions.
So, you might come in for a coffee and art chat, discover some art, wander off for lunch and then find yourself back again later!
That’s how I'd like it to feel.
Casual
Relaxed.
Friendly.
A little bit unexpected.

So, put the date in your diary…

Come for the art, stay for a chat.
And perhaps you'll find a little piece of the French Alps or Scottish coast that you'd like to take home with you.
I can't wait to see what happens when these two landscapes meet.
